Rules
Rules for the FREE
DVD: 1. One refund per person.
2. The DVD must be purchased from this web site.
3. In all cases, the word 'cat' means catamaran and is used
interchangeably with it.
4. The catamaran in the photos must be built using the plans on
my DVD and not from other plans.
5. The cat can be scaled up or down, but the finished cat must
follow the RebelCat design.
6. One usable photo of the cat builder is requested, unless he
or she does not want to appear on this web site.
7. Ten (10) usable photos showing the cat in different
stages of construction, including at least one side-view
of the entire finished cat with sails raised.
8. Three (3) minutes of usable, jitter-free,
in-focus video in standard definition of the cat
sailing.
9. If the video has been uploaded to a site like YouTube, then
the builder need only supply the embed code of the video.
10. Photos and video must be supplied on CD in digital format:
JPEG or BMP for photos, AVI or MPEG or FLV for video.
11. By submitting digital media of the owner and his or her
RebelCat, he or she gives permission to this web site owner to
include his or her media on this site for public viewing.
12. This offer for a refund on a purchased DVD will end when
the digital media from the 20th builder are approved. Good
luck!
Rules for the $500 for the best RebelCat
5: 1. The same rules apply as for the FREE DVD
above. In addition...
2. One entry per person.
3. The DVD must be purchased from this web site.
4. The design of RebelCat 5 on the DVD must be followed
strictly, not scaled larger or smaller. The pontoons can
be either 15' or 21' or in between. They can be made from
either 10" or 12" PVC pipe.
5. The cat must be attractively decorated, but it must not copy
my or existing RebelCats or those built by another of the first
20 RebelCats.
6. The winning cat will be chosen on the basis of completeness,
performance, innovation (see 15), beauty, adherence to the
RebelCat design and the digital media submitted.
7. Digital media must be of an actual, physical catamaran, not
a computer-generated or other non-physical cat.
8. The winning cat will be chosen from among the
first qualifying 20 RebelCats.
9. In addition to the 10 photos of construction, another 10
photos are required showing close-ups of all important
connections: deck to pontoons, spreaders to pontoons, bowsprit
to deck, bowsprit to fore spreader, rudder to aft spreader,
centerboard to CB trunk, mast to step, boom to mast, sails
to mast and boom and all sheets in their blocks.
10. An additional 5 photos are required of the entire completed
cat, with sails up from 5 directions.
11. In addition to the 3 minutes of video, another 5 minutes of
video must show the cat's handling ability in tacks, turns,
launching, beaching, and these must be shown from two angles,
though not necessarily at the same time.
12. All digital media must be submitted on CD or DVD to the
address on the contact form.
13. There is no date deadline. Final decision will be made one
month after the submission and inclusion (on the
First 20 RebelCats on
this site) of the 20th cat, no matter on what date that
occurs.
14. Once the 20th cat's digital media have been received and
approved, notice will be given on this site that there will be
no more submissions accepted for inclusion in the First 20
RebelCats. Digital media arriving after the approval of the
20th RebelCat will not be included in the judging, but they
may, if approved, appear in a special section of this web
site.
15. Important note: In order to encourage innovation, if a
RebelCat builder improves on the design described on the DVD,
that improvement or modification must be approved prior to
submitting the final digital media. If you find ways to improve
this cat, your approved change(s) will be considered during
judging and will improve your chances of winning. The changes
must be improvements, not just a different design, and must not
complicate construction. Such changes to the RebelCat design
must be well-documented. If approved, video will be required to
demonstrate the superiority of the change. Documented
improvements which do not complicate construction and are
approved will give you the best chance of winning. Many people
will be able to build RebelCat 5 from the DVD. Those who
improve the design without adding to its complexity will have
done a service to all cat builders, and their contributions
will be much appreciated by me. I will gladly give $500 to one
of these innovators.
16. Final note: I repeat, the design motif I have used on
RebelCats 4 and 5 is my artwork. Please don't copy it. You
surely have the creative spark in you to come up with your own
unique artistic style for your cat. Forget about what cats
usually look like, or sailboats in general. You're making a
REBEL, so it doesn't have to be ho-hum white and blue. Cats
which look too similar to mine or to others already posted in
the First 20 may not be approved. If you're going to be a
rebel, be original.
Good luck!
The owner of this web site reserves the right to reject
digital media if it does not meet the criteria listed
above.
Note: Check First 20
RebelCats page to see how many RebelCats have already been
built.
